Herbaceous plant that forms a clump of big lance-shaped leaves on erect stems growing directly from the underground trunk. Strong deep-green leaves grow up to 60-70 cm tall. Flowers are modest and sprout ''oddly'' from the surface of the ground. It is a plant with amazing qualities of adaptability, resistant to intense cold and heat, to sun and shade, to water excess and drought. It can be easily grown in pots and like a houseplant, although the growth is faster outdoors, rather in the shade of a tree or a wall.
