Evergreen, robust tree od considerable size that can reach 10 m of height. It is characterized by a wide and branched crown. Leaves are composed of paripinnate and leathery leaves, which have a glossy dark-green upper surface and a clearer lower one. Flowers are very small and greenish and are often brought by diffrent individual flowers, because of its being a dioecious species. Fruits, the carobs, are pods of 10-20 cm long which will assume a dark brown color during its ripening, drawing the confectionery industry attention.
