Pretty small evergreen perennial plant, with a typical thick and ground cover habit. Native to the Mediterranean basin, it can reach maximum 30 cm height, but it develops much more in width. It has numerous simple stems, erect and ascending, lignified at the base and herbaceous in the aerial part, with a quadrangular section and a greyish-green color due to the presence of microscopic hairs. The aromatic leaves, opposite and leathery, are dark green and ovate-oblong in shape, with cremated margins. The flowering of this plant can be observed between late spring and early summer: the numerous, tubular, small and purple-pink flowers are gathered in dense inflorescences that develop in the apical part of the stems.
