AEONIUM arboreum “Atropurpureum Schwarzkopf” (A.manriqueorum “Schwarzkopf”)

It prefers very bright and sunny exposures and requires loose poor soils, even stony or sandy, perfectly drained and permeable. It bears the typical salinity of sea winds in coastal locations as well as prolonged periods of drought. It tolerates minimum winter temperatures only a few degrees below zero, therefore where the cold can be intense and long lasting it is advisable to plant it in a well-protected and sheltered corner, or to guarantee it shelter in a cool and bright environment in winter. In spring when the vegetative restart does not require particular attention and care: even repotting must be carried out rarely and with small increases in the size of the pot. It is perfect on terraces and balconies, in containers even of small dimensions, taking particular care of the draining nature of the soil. In the open ground, it lends itself to enrich the desert corner of our garden and to accompany itself with other succulents and cacti, among which however it will be easily recognized for its generous and continuous flowering.
