Unusual, generous and rustic shrub, perennial and evergreen, with a contained, rounded and compact habit, of Australian origin: in a few years of cultivation it can reach a height of around 2 m and almost the same size in width. Lignified and branched from the base, it has numerous erect and slightly arched stems towards the apex. The leaves, elliptical and dark green, are arranged alternately along the branches and have evident veins. From the beginning of spring and until late autumn, the plant exhibits its abundant and showy flowering; from almost every leaf axil, pendulous inflorescences emerge composed of abundant orange-red flowers, with a very original and primitive shape: they are devoid of a true corolla and formed by the fusion of the sexual organs alone; besides, very rich in nectar, they attract insects and birds in abundance.
