It prefers partial or total shade positions, fearing direct sunlight instead; it adapts to any type of soil, but prefers fertile, soft, fresh and basically humid ones. It bears only short periods of drought and instead takes advantage of constant wetting in the hottest periods of the year; it does not like the salinity typical of sea winds in coastal areas, where it is therefore preferable to place it in sheltered corners. It can overcome minimum winter temperatures of a few degrees below zero, preferably not associated with conditions of high atmospheric humidity, and therefore, where the cold can be intense and lasting, choose a protected location, or defend it with a mulch of dry leaves or straw, or give her a shelter in a cool and bright environment in winter. It does not require special interventions: in spring, however, at the vegetative restart, we can remove dry, old, damaged or bulky leaves: in this way, we will stimulate the emission of new ones. Ideal for terraces and balconies, as well as for indoors: growing it in medium-sized pots or containers, it will decorate any environment in a truly refined way. In the open ground in the garden, we can use it to form large patches in shady or partially shady areas near ponds or ponds or humid areas in general, or to dress the foot of trees with an evergreen foliage, or to create light path borders along tree-lined streets and avenues. In any case and in any setting, we must not forget that, although always graceful and elegant, its well-known vigor and invasive capacity can sometimes constitute a serious problem to deal with eventually.
