Superb climber, perennial and evergreen, with easy growth and Central-South American origins: it can be pushed in height over 3 m and expanded even more in width. Lignified at the base, it has numerous stems, thin and flexible, with a liana-look and an ascending course, thanks to which the plant can climb up fences, gazebos, pergolas but also creep into the vegetation of bushes or the foliage of trees near which it is placed. The leaves, broad and opposite, glabrous and glossy, oval in shape with smooth margins and acute apex, with a strongly crinkled upper surface, are dark green. From late spring and throughout summer, large tubular flowers bloom copiously on the typically exuberant tropical foliage. The flowers are gathered in loose inflorescences, but open forward in an extended corolla with 5 petals, of various colors (white, pink, red), but always very showy: these are followed, if fertilized, by long and thin fruits, filled with small seeds with pappus that guarantee easy self-dissemination of the plant in nature.
