Vigorous and rustic bush or small tree, perennial and evergreen, fast growing and dense and expansive posture, native to Australian: at the maximum of its development it can grow 5 m tall and even more than 3.50 m large. Well lignified and densely branched from the base, formed by numerous thin woody or semi-woody stems, with initially reddish and then silvery bark, which, projecting in every direction and dividing repeatedly, give the plant a dense and light shape, almost sculptural: very characteristic is the bark of the older branches which, thick and spongy, tends to flake off in wide ribbons. Leaves, small and alternately arranged, leathery and glabrous, elliptical with obtuse apex and smooth edges, are bright green and intensely aromatic when wrinkled. Between the end of spring and the beginning of summer, in the terminal parts of the branches abundant, like strange "pompons", spherical pink inflorescences appear which, in the style of the flowers of the Callistemon genus, are formed only by the male reproductive organs and feminine, stamens and pistils, and lacking of petals and corollas; they attract the attention of bees and insects in general and for this reason fertilization is really very easy: they soon give way in autumn, but persist on the plant for years, to spherical and woody fruits, really decorative, containing very small dark seeds.
