Generous, simple and rustic herbaceous, perennial and semi-deciduous, with fast growth and bushy, expansive and slender posture, native to South America: at the maximum of its development and flowering it can grow more than 1 meter-tall and slightly less large. Well lignified and branched from the base, it has numerous thin, long herbaceous, rough, hollow and quadrangular stems, which assume an initial erect course, but then, dividing repeatedly at the nodes, tend to spread outwards, making give the plant a vaporous appearance. The leaves, arranged opposite to somewhat elongated internodes, are few if compared to the size of the bush: they are wrinkled, lanceolate, sessile, with finely serrated margins and acute apex, of a dark green color. From the beginning of spring and until late autumn, at the apex of the branches small hemispherical inflorescences develop copiously. They are composed of tiny tubular flowers of a mauve pink color able to attract insects of all kinds: these are followed by insignificant fruits containing seeds that guarantee an easy spontaneous dissemination of the plant.
