Beautiful species of Hibiscus, shrub of small size, perennial and stripping, with a shrubby habit and rapid growth, native to North America: in a short time it can exceed 2 m in height and even 1 m in width. From the fleshy roots, the only component of the plant that manages to overwinter, several sturdy stems erect and slightly spread at the top develop from late spring, which at the base can take on a woody consistency, while they remain almost herbaceous at the top: on them they are inserted in alternately large and thin palmate leaves similar to those of a maple, with a long petiole and a soft green color, sometimes slightly tinged with red on the edges. In summer, at the top of each branch, showy and large scarlet corollas formed by only 5 petals, geometrically perfect, open in succession from the bottom upwards: these are followed by large capsules containing numerous small spherical seeds, very useful for the reproduction of the plant.
