Rustic perennial herbaceous belonging to the Poaceae family. It grows spontaneously in almost the whole Mediterranean Basin (Italy included) and in Africa, but it was also introduced in other areas of the world where it has been able to establish itself very easily. This grass, common along the uncultivated and arid borders of streets and gaps, is a thick tuft of thin and narrow grey-green leaves which can grow till 50 cm tall and large. In summer sparse and thin inflorescences rise from the base of leaves and over the time these turn blonde: they can reach maximum 80 cm and consist of small paired spikes with a silky and silvery aspect that fall when ripen.
