Very rustic, vigorous, easy and generous shrub typical of the so-called "Mediterranean scrub", perennial and evergreen, with medium growth and bushy, thick and compact habit, native to the Mediterranean basin: at its maximum development it can reach up to 4 m in height and 2 m or more in width. Often known by the vulgar name of "laurustine", it is well lignified and branched from the base: the erect, vertical, rising stems tend to divide repeatedly and spread slightly outwards, giving the plant a dense, regular and composed look. The leaves, arranged opposite to one another and with a short petiole, are dark green, glabrous, leathery, lanceolate-ovate with smooth margins and acute apex. Between the end of winter and the beginning of spring, rounded inflorescences of small pink buds appear copiously at the apex of the branches from which white, tiny flowers with five-lobed corolla bloom, fragrant and irrepressible attraction for insects of all kinds: these are followed in autumn throughout winter, by spherical very ornamental bluish fruits, birds love them.
