CALLISTEMON viminalis'Little John'

Description

Evergreen thick and compact bush, is one of the most famous hybrid of the Callistemon genre achieved in Australia around '80. It can grow in height till 1,50 m and much more in width(even till 2,50 m). It is characterized by tight grey-green and bluish leaves and blood red bottle-brush shaped inflorescences: these last ones appear very numerous from early summer to late autumn and are followed by a rich and just as decorative fructification.

Suggestions

It needs sunny positions, at most semi-shaded ones. It prefers fertile, dried but above all well drained soils: it doesn't tolerates water stagnations which can compromise the health plant. During the vegetative regrowth, a light pruning limited to the remotion of small damaged and dried branches, can improve the plant total aspect and its blooming. It is ideal as single specimen, in pots and containers too; in the garden it can be used to realize low evergreen and colorful hedges.
