ERICA canaliculata

Description

It's a bush with dense foliage, evergreen which reaches heights of 5 meters too. Stems are covered by very small needle-like leaves of a deep green color, while in winter the plant is covered with small pink flowers, little bell-shaped and very showy. It's particularly suitable to give color to gardens in winter. This specie of Erica is the most suitable to Mediterranean climate gardens, due to its resistance to drought, heat and summer insolation.

Suggestions

Compared to other 'Erica' plants, this doesn't tolerate the intense cold, so in frosty climates it's better to grow it in containers which will be brought in sheltered places in winter. It needs fresh and sub-acid soils.
